Challenge

Since 2017, Rakuten Viber has been FC Barcelona’s (Barça) official communication channel, forging a long-term and innovation-focused relationship between the messaging app and renowned football team. A core goal was connecting the club and its loyal and dedicated fanbase to 1.1B+ users worldwide. Rakuten Viber enabled Barça to enrich their connection with fans while driving sticker downloads, building a new community of fans and engaging them through an entertaining chatbot. 

Solution

The club launched a 15-language Chatbot, as well as Rakuten Viber Communities in English, Arabic, Russian and Spanish where fans are able to keep up with all the latest news and information from FC Barcelona, as well as access different special activations and behind the scenes sneak-peaks. 

The content strategy includes ‘Vote and Win’ polls, where fans can vote for the best player of the match and win signed official merchandise, or the “Meet and Greet” with the players, where fans are able to have a direct interaction with the players. Fans are also able to download exclusive FC Barcelona sticker packs, dedicated to the club and its famous players.
